    Great little netbook!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have owned this little netbook for over a week now and I love it. I had been researching netbooks for over a month, debating between the Toshiba, Asus, and this one because of the bigger hard drive and the longer battery life. I don’t think I get 9 hours as it claims, and I really didn’t expect it to, but it is a long time between charges. It easily connected with my network and the windows 7 starter had some updates, but no problems. I cleaned off all the trial software and put AVAST on it. I just received a 2GB memory chip yesterday and installed it and it really does make it faster, but if you chose not to get the memory upgrade, it is still fast. The memory chip was easy to install. I was afraid to pull the cover off the memory slot after I took out the screw, but once I tugged a little it popped right off and took me less than couple minutes to put it in and put the cover back on. I am pleased with this netbook and wanted to write a review because these reviews helped me make my decision on which one to buy.

    Super computer

this is a really great computer. I was impressed with everything from the packaging to working with it for a couple of days. The smaller keyboard only took a couple of hours to get used to, before it became very natural feeling. I think I actualy prefer it to my normal keyboard now.

buy one for yourself, but make sure you get the two GB of memory.

Memory upgrade question–cover no longer sits flush
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I just got this computer tonight, so this is not so much a review as a question. I bought the 2gb RAM upgrade Amazon recommended (Crucial 2GB 667 Mhz CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory) and installed it easily.

The problem is, because of the extra black modules on the 2gb chip, the card is thicker and the plastic cover no longer sits flush with the underside of the computer. I was able to screw the cover back down by gentle force, but the edges stick up a 2-3 millimeters above the surrounding computer. I am afraid it will catch on something and break off.

It seems that any 2gb chip would have this problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a compatible 2bg chip out there that makes a better physical fit with this computer?

This is a great little computer. Windows 7 is easy to use and it was a breeze to set up and network with my other computer on the wireless conection. Easily transfered files to the Acer via the network. It really does last 9 full hours on the battery. So portable! Just what I wanted.

    So far so good

I just received my Acer D250 netbook today. I was a little nervous to buy one of these little guys, but after seeing these Christmas prices and reading some reviews, I decided to go for it. I ordered the blue one, and it is sharp to look at. I can’t get over how small and light it is. Provided it performs well those tasks I require of it (email, course management systems, loading and playing flash files, opening and editing Word docs), I’m sure it will be a great purchase.

I was a bit anxious about the netbook being too small for me and my fingers (I’m 6’7″ and–er–not scrawny), and after playing around with the machine a little, I’m surprised how easily I can type. I am compensating a bit with how I hold my fingers compared to on my normal laptop (and HP Pavilion), but let’s get real: one ought not to buy a netbook to type a term paper, and I won’t be doing any serious word processing on this computer. I bought it for travel and for days to work when I know I will only be doing emailing and no research. The key that is most notably little for me is the backspace key–I am accustomed to a 1″ wide backspace key, and on the netbook it’s about the size of any of the letters, but that’s fine, and adapting won’t be that hard. The touchpad is small, but it can’t be much bigger and maintain the small profile of this netbook. As with any new computer, new stereo, new cell phone, or whatever, there will be a short adjustment period, but this is normal with all electronics.

I followed the advice of another review ([...]) and it really was as easy as he described to set the thing up. I swapped out the memory card for the 2GB before I even put the battery in for the first time, and sure enough, the computer booted up just fine. I got rid of many of the programs that come preloaded, including the attached McAfee trial. I ran the updates (there were 34 updates; took 10-15 minutes to download and restart; took my dog for a short walk and the computer was back up and running when I got back).

I downloaded the Panda for Netbooks antivirus software ($[...] for 12 months), and it downloaded and installed quickly, and without a glitch. I use Webroot for my main laptop, but I liked that Panda specified a product for netbooks. Whether I’m right or not, I feel like it won’t slow the machine down as much.

So far, so good with this little machine. I am giving it a tentative 4 stars, both because it is as yet untested for what I need (I teach online for a university), and because the keyboard does feel a little flimsy under my fingers. I don’t hold this against the product or Acer, honestly. I don’t think we can reasonable expect Mac of Vaio quality out of a $[...] miniature computer. As long as all goes to plan, I will likely raise this to a 4.5-5 star rating after a trip or two and after I get a sense of how it travels.

    best mini laptop out there
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
i just got this netbook in white 2 days ago.i was extremely hesitant to just jump in and buy any old netbook.of course i considered hp and dell.but then i realized i wanted something that was more about aesthetics than style.this computer has both.i am using it right now to write this review :) anyway, i looked high and low for a netbook that was affordable but had a good battery life and was fast.i almost got the toshiba nb205-330 but at the last minute i came accross this little beauty.i saw that not only was it thinner than the toshiba (which is very important as i am a student and will be traveling around a lot) but it had the same if not better battery life as well as fast processor and it was 70 dollars cheaper.so i compared and read reviews and decided to place my order.since i have gotten it this is what i concluded:

-battery life: even with the settings on high and only 30 percent battery life out of the box i used it until the battery was dying and got 4 hours out of it!!! and i was surfing the web and downloading things i needed.i have recharged the battery and i assume that it will last me a long time before having to recharge again.i adjusted the settings to power save so im thinking somewhere along the lines of the advertised 8 or 9 hours.

-screen: the display has very sharp graphics and it is a pleasure to read things.i dont even realize i am using a netbook.i feel like i am looking at a full screen computer.

-keyboard:the keyboard took me no time to adjust at all.i have big hand for a woman, and i am typing as i would on any other computer with no mistakes whatsoever.and the mouse pad i rarely use because i decided to get the logitech anywhere mouse (also a great product) but the mousepad is very acceptional.

-weight:this was a big factor for me.i wanted something that i can thrown in my bag and go,and not have my shoulder aching.ladies and gentleman THIS IS A VERY LIGHT COMPUTER. i was expecting the protruding battery to be ridiculous but it is not at all.doesnt stick out too much and is not that heavy.so throwing it in ur bag and going? not a problem at all,and as a student it is a dream to have

other than that i have found no issues at all.its light, nice crisp screen.the speakers could be louder but i dont need to listen to music on it.i upgraded the ram to 2 gigs and it is not noticably faster but does cut the lag time and startup time by more that half.the fan is not loud and the webcam is also acceptional for a netbook.the design is very classy to me,and everyone around me has fallen in love with it.so,would i recommend u choose this netbook over any other? OF COURSE.

you would be a fool to choose anything else.i went to best buy and looked at the other netbooks and none of them had everything like this computer does.the sony and hp have style but the screen resolution sucks.all the others had missing keys or something else wrong.also if u are a tad OCD like i am,i recommend going with the white color because the darker colors are fingerprint MAGNETS and makes the computer look dirty.with white,u cant see the fingerprints or scratches(not that i have any yet).even with the protruding battery, almost any 10.2 inch sleeve will fit this computer.i have a blue “incase” case and it fits very snug and tight.which is way better if u ask me.no one wants their computer swimming aorund a case.hope this review helped sway some decisions and i will update to let everyone know if i find any “cons”

*UPDATE 12/15/09:after fully recharging the battery and using it (cant use it every second of the day cuz the battery lasts long)i got at least 8 hours total out of it.and that was with breaks in between and what not.i also upgraded to windows 7 professional, runs like a dream.for all of you students out there, go to this site: [...] .this is why i can upgrade because microsoft is pricey BUT if ur a student, windows 7 professional is only 30 dollars and microsoft office ultimate is only 60!!! plus some other things! so…there u go everyone!

    Solid Netbook
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
First of all the picture of the unit here is inaccurate. The newer ones have the product logo in the upper left hand corner of the bezel. Not at the bottom of the screen. Mine was manufactured 9/09. I don’t know if their are any other differences.

This is one solid netbook. It does all the things I would want in a laptop in a smaller format. The battery life is awesome, with options to adjust power usage in order to gain maximum battery life. I have used it for the full 9 hours that the manufacturer claims. The speakers provided in this netbook really suck. You can hardly hear them. It is bluetooth enabled, and if you are like me you should pick up a good bluetooth headphone set. Then it sounds really good. Also the supplied Windows 7 Starter also sucks. I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. Big difference. And one other thing is that if you are going to spend the additional $79.95 for the Windows 7 upgrade to Home Premium. You should also upgrade the memory to 2GB. That will cost an additional $45.00.

If you buy the Home Premium upgrade, the bluetooth headphones and the 2GB memory upgrade, it will add an additional $185 or so to the price tag. I bought mine for $350 and then spent and additional $185 or so. That’s about $535 total. A bit spendy for a netbook. If you can afford it, this is a great if not exceptional netbook.

I just wish that these manfacturers would ship these units with everything they need to function at their optimal capabilities. But they don’t. The reasons, competition in the marketplace. And the consumer is left holding the bag.

But all in all I would recommend this fine netbook to anyone.

This little computer is great, but the Windows 7????
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
As I said, the computer is solid. Battery life is excellent, but the Windows 7 it comes with is very “light” on the networking part. I am sure it would be better if you got the windows “upgrade”, but why should one have to spend another $78.00 for an operating system that will allow networking when it should have been capable with what it had. I have ordered another one with Windows XP and am sending this one back.

    Amazing little companion!

I LOVE this netbook! I’m a sophistocated but not tech-savy computer user… I’ve been using laptops as my desktop replacement for years now, but haven’t really been motivated to lug my laptop around due to weight. I’ve used a flash drive to bring stuff between home and work-place offices when necessary. This handy little light-weight netbook is amazing! I would definitely recommend purchasing an external CD/DVD-drive right from the beginning (I hesitated, which made the first few days a bit more frustrating). I have since downloaded my frequently-used software (Quicken, Outlook, iTunes, Audible Manager for my audiobooks)… I’ve used the software CD-ROMS that came with my last laptop purchase — so I needn’t extend the Microsoft Office 60-day trial with another purchase. I’m on my home DSL wireless network and I’m off and running now!

I’ve already gotten my music and audiobooks on the netbook for my next trip, and might try downloading a movie as well. I’ve synchronized my Treo smartphone with my home laptop and the netbook so every device knows my Outlook schedule.

The screen is bright and beautiful. The keyboard, while somewhat smaller, is easy to get used to. Windows 7 seems to work beautifully — very intuitive, no problems so far.

After only one week, I’m very very happy with my purchase!

Got it a few days ago and I love it. The keyboard is great — nice touch and big enough for me. Screen is very bright. No problem reading it. Battery seems to last long. Best of all, it fits in my purse, even when in a sleeve. I plan to take it everywhere. Nice and lightweight. Touchpad is a little small, but doesn’t seem to be a problem. I might up the ram, but I don’t think it’s crucial to do so. It’s fast. And a great price! $315 with a coupon.

Got the netbook with free shipping and it was here in about 5 days. Turned it on, started right up no problem. I bought the extra ram, so I shut it down, unscrewed the back port and took the old ram out. It took me 3 tries to get the new ram in because I didn’t have it set just right, but it really was an easy fix. (the computer didn’t turn on until I had it in right) Once the new ram was in I did see a very fast difference, although it wasn’t terrible with old ram. The battery life is amazing, the screen is really great. It is alittle bit dimmer on battery but really not noticible. The cam lights you up, so no extra web cam lighting needed and the mic works great. I was able to watch episodes of “Lost” online at ABC with no lag and the picture was great. I don’t really have a problem with the built-in mouse because I don’t use it. I like using a USB lazar mouse, so it’s not an issue.
