I’m not very computer savvy but this is great for me. I keep it beside me when I’m watching TV & I jump on OFTEN to google something or check facebook or ebay. I love this little thing. I bring it outside in the summer to my gazebo. It’s the handiest little thing I ever purchased. It’s attached to my hip. Love, love ,love it.

    Good notebook for travel
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I initially looked for a travel DVD/DivX player to play videos for my daughter during trips (car, bus, …) but after some search, I was afraid by the quality for low prices products and high quality products have prices closed to a notebook.

So I finally bought this notebook with the benefit (as compare to a single DVD player) to have also an Internet access when I am at the hotel.

Since almost 4 months I get it, I am very satisfied by my choice.

This notebook matches exactly my wishes : screen large enough to see a movie or surfing on Internet, good sound even in a car without headset, very good autonomy (the 6.5 hours are real).

I just miss an external CD/DVD reader to be able to make the CD backup. It would be better if a recovery CD was directly provided. I’ll see for my next buy. In any case, a usual USB stick is good enough for file transfer.

I tried out quite a few netbooks before settling on this one. The Acer has, by far, the smoothest and easiest keyboard to type upon. I am a writer, and I’m very, VERY picky about my keyboards.

It came with Windows XP, but I installed Ubuntu Linux on it. Everything works very well under Ubuntu; I highly recommend it as a better alternative to Windows. It boots faster, shuts down almost immediately (by comparison), and except for Firefox (which runs slowly on Linux), I have absolutely no complaints about the performance. I assume it performs reasonably well with Windows XP.

All the features below are in the context of Linux. Windows performance may vary.

    * Battery life is quite good. I get a good 4 hours 30 minutes of normal use.

    * Wireless networking also works very well.

    * The special blue function key took some getting used to, but now it’s almost automatic.

    * The screen resolution IS small, but I have found it adequate for such a lightweight, portable machine. Video is crisp and clear. I’m not sure if I could work with a smaller screen.

I have used the machine for about 6 months and have had no problems at all. I use an external mouse with a very small USB dongle (I have disabled the touchpad, so don’t ask me about that). I also have installed a 16 GB SD HD in the available slot. I also routinely use an external USB hard drive and various flash drives.

This machine is very light and portable and easy to get work done on.

I bought the acer laptop once we changed to Verizon and FINALLY got DSL. My old desktop (which has all my software on it and I know like the back of my hand and is, like, 10 years old and working great so I’m NOT replacing it)for some reason just refused to load the verizon dsl software /router thingie despite 4, count ‘em 4 hours on the phone with tech support, stumping even the tech’s in India. So after years of dial up I was still unable to get dsl on my old computer. Sigh. So what the heck. Spend $300 and voila. Portable internet. It’s a bit of a hassel, but I’ve found flash drive a big help to send files I create on my big computer (artist, designer) and I love watching tv and checking email on the sofa, working on my blog, etc. The tiny screen and keyboard take some getting used to, and I had trouble with my “m” key…it completely stuck..and in my effort to “fix” it came completely off, so now I just have to touch the naked little M nipple to type M. it could be fixed but shipping to service center is 1/4 the price of the computer, so I just make do. I’m definately getting my money’s worth out of it! I’d like to consolidate my acer and my old geizer to a snazzy new laptop with a big ole screen at some point when I can afford it, meanwhile, this little fella is serving me very well. Worth the $ for sure. A real treat to take it on a trip recently and check email on the road. NO I don’t have a blackberry like 99% of the rest of the world. Leave me alone about it. I’ll catch up to technology one of these days. I just got DSL for cryin’ out loud. Gimme a break.

When I first considered buying a Netbook I didn’t imagine it would be as useful as it has turned out to be. I primarily got it for travel, it’s small size makes it easy to pack, and it being cheaper than a full size notebook makes dragging it along a bit less intimidating, especially on camping trips.

I use it for Geocaching, I run mapping software using a USB GPS, and have drivers installed to be able to interface with most handheld GPS units. GSAK runs great.

Battery life is great, I have not done any tests but 6 hours seems about right.

It’s exterior shiny finish picks up fingerprints like a magnet, and it is easy to scratch. The interior finish around the keyboard has a similar look to brushed metal. I got the Black model and think it looks great.

I did add more RAM, not out of necessity but because RAM was cheap and I was ordering it for my other computers anyway. Installation was a snap, just open the RAM door, pull the old card out and snap the new one in. There is only one slot and the maximum RAM it will take from what I recearched is the 2GB I installed. With 2GB RAM Windows XP at idle only uses about 10%, and opening multiple programs does not seem to slow it down until you go to an extreme. I have not noticed any issues with the RAM, it runs just like it did before the upgrade only it will handle more open programs without slowing.

Start up and shut down is less than a minute, and has not noticeably increased since I got it over 6 months ago. It hibernates fast and restores fast, I was amazed since my work machine which runs XP takes a good 10 minutes to warm up with me optimizing it as much as possible.

Overall I’m very pleased with this netbook, it has proven to be one of the most handy computers I have owned. It can’t replace a full size notebook or desktop, but it is especially handy for web surfing on the couch, and taking along outside the home.

    Keyboard/Mouse Stopped Working
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Like most, I loved my netbook and all of sudden it made a slight noise one night and went black. I turned the system back on, thought everything was ok until I realized the mouse was cold (hadn’t worked since) and I discovered 06st 6f 0y 2eyb6ard d5dn’t w6r2 e5ther. What I actually just typed (using the acer) was [most of my keyboard didn't work either]. Needless to say I’m now using an external mouse and keyboard which defeats the purpose of having a netbook. Btw, I purchased my netbook from Amazon in March of this year for $349.99.

I have had this one for about a month. Pleased with the battery life and clarity of the monitor. Keyboard is a bit cramped for my taste and the mouse buttons on the track pad require some getting use to. After a week I decided to go with a wireless mouse and not use the track pad (except for gestures like zoom). With a 6.5 hour battery i can take it just about anywhere without searching for power outlets or lugging around a power brick. This 150 model does not come with Bluetooth but it can easily be upgraded using a usb dongle.

So happy with this Acer 150 that I am looking to purchase the Acer Revo next.

My wife and I are committed Mac users but found a need for a PC in the house. After comparing the market we chose the Acer Aspire One and have been very happy with the choice. The battery life claims seem to be accurate. The only initial problem was getting rid of all the “extra” software (I am not a fan of all the new Google applications). Now everything is fine.

Prior to owning this machine, I had been carting around an Apple iBook for years. After two days wasted trying to install a piece of software that I was certain was supported by Windows, I finally gave up and purchased one of these netbooks.

I couldn’t be happier. It’s lightweight, runs XP, and has very reasonable battery life. The keyboard is a little small for my pudgy fingers, but not unacceptably so; when I have to do a marathon coding session, I pack a full-sized USB keyboard and mouse and get some real work done.

To be fair, I may be over-valuing this purchased based on the difference in happiness I’ve gained from this machine vs. my previous machine. But I still think it’s a very good computer at a very fair price.

    AOD150-1577 Windows 7 upgrade-Awesome!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Anyone looking to upgrade their Acer One to windows 7 should run not walk for the upgrade. Don’t waste your time with the windows advisor. It works and that is all that matters.

The upgrade took less than an hour and all the bells and whistles work.

It doesn’t matter if you have 1 gb memory to 2 gb, it works great.

You do have to re-load your programs, but for the positive results that you will achieve, it’s worth it.

It helps if you have an external DVD player. Just back up any files that are not in your “my documents” folder and your ready to go. W7 moves your “My Documents” and your “program files” into a subdirectory called windows.old.

You can retrieve your documents after you install by moving them out of the windows.old and back into “My Documents”.

Boot time is quicker, hibernate mode is quicker and I haven’t noticed any reduction in my battery life.

One program I added was “vista switcher”. After installing, hit your Alt key and your Tab key. You will be able to cycle through the programs you have open.

One other item to ensure that your “one” is as quick as possible, I use and SD card for “ready boost”. This program is built in and uses some or all of the card as a “cashe” file.

Hope this helps someone who is looking to purchase an Acer. I have had several Acers in the past and have always been pleased with their quality.

i love it but was disappointed when I traveled
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I loved this netbook until I took it on a trip and everyone could connect to the new wireless network there except me, which is why I bought it in the first place. When I called the Acer warranty people, they said it was a software issue and I would have to pay for the support??. I was able to connect to chat programs, but not get any web pages with either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. I still don’t know why but it works perfectly at home, which I don’t need it for of course.

I’ve had my little netbook for about two weeks and I think I have a new soul-mate! The netbook fits in my (big) purse, and I take it everywhere with me and use it for couch surfing. I am so happy with the battery life (at least six hours), and the speed with which it boots up, shuts down, and wakes up. I also love the red color. I have not had any of the problems that some have reported (issues with the tough space bar and mouse buttons). My hands have adjusted to the smaller keyboard just fine and I can chat like a pro. I really can’t think of anything that I would want to change about this little machine.

I’m one of 8 adult children – and the first one to get a netbook. Now 4 out of 8 own it – and the 5th one is looking! I thought I’d only use it occasionally, but since I first turned it on, I’ve used my PC less than twice a month. It’s faster on the internet than anything I’ve ever used. I now use it for all my digital photo editing – I download over 500 images per month and spend hours working on them. One hint: I keep my music library on a thumb drive so I can plug and play it using Windows media Player on the Acer. I keep another thumb drive handy in case I need to print something. For any application I have found using a thumb drive is better than having duplicate files on two computers. Do not be afraid to buy this item. I will never be without my little red Acer!

I am thrilled with this purchase. It was exactly what I was looking for. This was purchased so that I would have a computer to take with me on trips. I post a daily Blog that includes pictures. The computer has an SD slot so that I was easily and quickly able to update my photos to publish to my Blog. I have a business that requires that I check email on a daily basis so I was able to easily able to take care of business. It is very light and I was easily able to carry it in my backpack and with the long battery life I was able to pack the power cord in my checked luggage so that I didn’t have to carry the additional weight.

Because of the small screen size and the small keyboard I would not want this as my only computer but to have for travel, it’s perfect.

I absolutely loved my Acer Netbook. So much, that since its been stolen, I’m going to buy another one. It had a long lasting battery, was light weight, and fit into every bag I own. They keyboard felt right, never cramped. And with all the storage space, uploading pictures using the built in memory card slot, was never an issue.

    Fantastic buy
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this back in May and I haven’t had a single problem. I put the Windows 7 RC on it within two days of purchasing the machine and media playback improved. When I added an additional gig of ram for 25 dollars, it was even better.

Now, I’m typing this review on the Acer, am perfectly comfortable with the keyboard at this point, and it’s running Windows 7 premium. Even BETTER.

It’s great. I keep it in the living room, it’s easier to use and has a bit more versatility than my iPhone for using the internet, watching videos, etc.

By no means would I be happy if this were my only computer, but as an extra internet/media playback device, it’s fantastic. It can multitasking surprisingly well, it’s battery power is remarkable, and if I were one to run around using the internet at Starbucks and cafes, now that I have this, I couldn’t imagine lugging a full sized laptop around.

    Thrilled with the purchase.

When it breaks–and it will–get ready for customer service hell
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Many of the reviews here are from new users of this computer. Before you buy one, however, Google “Acer customer service problems” and you’ll get an idea (actually hundreds of ideas) of what you are in for. Make no mistake, your Acer Aspire will break. Mine has twice in 10 months and as you’ll see I’m not alone. Acer’s customer service is a nightmare and there is a very good chance they will not honor your warranty. They are very difficult to reach by phone and there is no way to escalate claims. My bottom line advice: avoid this and all Acer computers. But don’t take my word for it, just do a few minutes of online research before pulling out your credit card.

I saw this same netbook “On Sale” for 3 dollars more at a local store. It only had the

3 cell battery. This one has the 6 so it lasts a good long time. That was my main reason for buying it here. I already new this machine was a good price for the money as long as

you get the 6 cell battery. If you can get the 3 cell at a really good price (ie <250) then

    thats ok.

We have been years trying to decide whether to buy a laptop. When we saw the HP notebook we got much closer and then we saw the ACER…the same thing for less! I have been using ours almost daily. It is so nice to sit with my wife in the evenings and either research on the net or watch a movie on it or just write a letter while she does something else. It was so easy to set up opens quickly everything I had hoped. We have not had the opportunity to exercise the wireless capability away from our home signal yet so can not comment on that. The only thing I wish is that there was more volume from the speakers. We are both 62 and the hearing is not what it used to be. Great product. At least for the 1st 30 days! Only drained the battery once and it exceeded the 6.5 hour limit. I would not go without my desktop but this product is an outstanding addition.

Of the 3 Asprie Ones I have purchased this is the first one in Windows XP. (others were the far superior linux) The little net books are ultra portable and Acer makes a fairly decent product. Here are my thoughts:

    Cons:

#1-It runs the worst operating system EVER! (windows)

#2-The poor little processor gets bogged down a bit with all the silly windows updates.

#3-Anti-Virus is a must! of course that means bogging down the little computer with even more silly updates and system scans.

#4-did I mention it runs windows. ugh! what happened to the Linux ones?

#5-The track pad is a tricky little bugger and it takes a lot of getting used to.It’s best to purchase an extra USB mouse to use.

    #6- it runs windows :-(

#7- watching full screen movies pushes the processor to its limits. The movie and audio can skip a bit.

    #8-tiny netbook = tiny wi-fi antennae.expect degraded wifi performance.

#9- windows… its yucky.and chances are good the netbook will virus crash.

    Pros:

#1- cheap price, makes it expendable. Hurts less if something should happen to it.

#2- Ultra-Portable. it takes up very little valuable space in your suitcase.

#3- Extra long battery life! I used it all the way across the atlantic, watching almost 5hrs of full screen video.

#4- the screen is nice, bright, and great picture quality.

3 stars because of the windows and all the related ills that come with it. Such as viruses, endless updates, and questionable system security. All this is tasking the tiny processor. The physical hardware is good except for the track pad. I hope this helps.
