My brother and I both bought these netbooks from Costco, and within 6 months they both stopped working. The internet is slow as molasses as well. They will fix them if you want to go through the hassle of mailing it in. In my opinion, for something that is mainly used to surf the web, there is no reason why it should have problems so soon after we purchased them. Don’t waste your money!

Comparison with MSI wind u100 netbook
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R103YI077K47CT A comparison between the Acer aspire one and the MSI wind u100-451us.Both the Acer and MSI are extremely similar. I’ve had the MSI wind for a year or so, and just bought the Acer as a gift for my boyfriend. My father has this same model Acer for about a year now, so I was confident in picking this brand.

A couple things I did forget to mention. The Acer did have more “bloatware” (McAfee Internet Security Suite trial version; Google Desktop; Carbonite Online Backup; Acer GridVista) on it then the MSI wind, so I did remove a couple programs. This is really personal preference. Some people like to have as much as possible to get new software and try new programs. I like a bare bones netbook so I can add things according to my needs without really taking up much hard drive space. Both have 160GB hard drive. The Acer is a tad bit thinner when closed, but the MSI is listed at 2.3 lbs, while the Acer is 2.4 lb.

They have the very same video processor, though I said in my video I thought the Acer had a bit better video quality. This really could just have been the videos I watched (and the quality of them), not necessarily the video capabilities of the netbooks. Both are in fact available in white. The MSI wind wins for me based on the slightly larger keyboard and the matte screen.

I needed a small, lightweight netbook with an easy-to-use keyboard and an easy to read screen– and an easy to take price– and that is what I got. I bought a Denali carrying case for it that was on sale at Target, and together they cost about $300. I took the Acer with me on a trip to Barbados and it worked perfectly in the hotel’s WiFi area. The only problem I ever have is that the built-in mouse pad is over-sensitive to my touch– but maybe my touch is too heavy! With a memory stick (the case has a pouch to carry such things)I am able to transfer items back and forth from my home and office desktops.

Purchased this little computer just over a year ago. Worked fine, a little slow, but I was reasonably pleased with it until the motherboard totally quit. Would not bootup at all. And this was just six weeks after the warranty ran out!

    Service, Service, Service

The computer is fairly nice, but as many people have written the touch pad is not very good. My main concern is the service that Acer supplies. I received our computer and it had a couple of issues. Burning the restore DVD’s did not work – and finally had to resort to burning CD’s (nine CD’s). Acer does not supply restore disks but will sell them to you for $20 (pretty crazy)

The big problem is with a small broken hinge cover piece. Acer will not respond to requests to repair. They have no phone number you can call and all they give you is run around. If you want cheap and dont care about service, then this is the company for you.

Bought this in July. It was used by an employee for maybe 3 weeks before it was shelved, and I was told it was broken. Spent some time doing a system restore and tried to see what all of the fuss was about. This machine is so slow it is unusable, must have a bad hard drive. Not even worth my time to try and contact support, try going to the Acer website and you instantly feel a level of frustration that just doesn’t exist with other name brands in my opinion.

Acer Aspire One – I’ve had 2 both with the same problem of Skype or MSN with video completely freezing and locking the machine. There are plenty of other people with the same problem if you read the reviews (enter google = acer aspire skype problem freezing).

For a netbook this is a FATAL problem and ACER are doing nothing. AVOID like the plague.

For a 10 inch netbook, it did its job.

    PROS

Great working webcam and mic, perfect for our video chatting with skype.

    Bright, clear monitor.

    CONS

    weak speakers/sound

And just a reminder, this has no CD drive.

    dies in 6 months
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have purchased 3 Acer Netbooks. When the hard drive on the first one died in six months, I thought it was just a fluke. Now, number 2 is on the same death trajectory. It starts with the hard drive initially emitting a loud death rattle, which in turn becomes a steady humming. Then it either cannot make a network connection or becomes so slow one thinks one is still on dial up. The price is dandy and they sure are cute, but disposable cameras have a longer life span. Invest in something a little more expensive until you find it exciting to buy a new computer every six months.

good secondary netbook for the price
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this exact same Acer from Target when it was 199.00. This is the cheapest price around. Other places were selling it for 250.00 and up.(Wal-Mart was selling it for $225.)

This one came with the N270 processor, and 1 GB of ram. Other netbooks may have tne N280 processor and 1.66ghz (so are little faster). You can remedy this by upgrading the ram to 2 GB and this is what I did as soon as I took it home.

It will cost you about 50US$. I bought a Kingston. There is only one slot so you have to buy a 2GB memory module. This is definitely worth it. Try selling the 1 GB on Craigslist.

Upgrading is Super easy. I’m a total novice. (Previous Acers – it was very difficult but not these newer models). I did it in less than 10 minutes. I found a website that had the video and it was so simple. (So for 250$, I have a very good inexpensive secondary computer)

I have 3 websites open and i’m running windows media listening to web radio. I also played some Youtube videos – very fast and no problem streaming the video. Absolutely no problem. Speakers are fine. I don’t know if I kept the 1GB if memory it would be as easy. I have no problem getting Wifi reception.

The keyboard is 88% size of desktop keyboards compared with other netbooks which are 92%. (So this might be a problem for people with big fingers).

Some people mabye tempted to upgrade to Windows 7. However XP works great. If you do upgrade – then definitely get 2 GB of ram and bypass “Windows 7 Starter” – it’s not worth it.

It would get 5 stars but the pixel resolution is 1024×600 (which most netbooks have). However it would be nice if it had 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. For those who want to know the model does not have “Bluetooth”.

REMEMBER – THESE NETBOOKS DO NOT HAVE A CD/DVD DRIVE.

Bottom line: This a very good computer for the price. As a secondary computer for emailing, limited work purpose it’s definitely worth it.

I love this netbook! I got it on Black Friday special and have only had a day to play with it but so far so good. It does come with Windows XP (bummer) and only 1 GB of ram but I immediately upgraded both. My other laptop used the same ram and upgraded it to 4 GB (from 3 GB) a while back.

Lucky for me I saved that ram and used the 2 GB stick in the machine. The details of this item page says the max ram is 1.5 GB. I don’t know how that is possible because I have never seen a 1.5 GB stick of ram and this machine only has one slot.

Had no problems with this netbook with Windows 7. In fact Acer sells a version of this machine Windows 7 Starter on it. In fact I think it runs better then Windows XP.

So far so good, I am even considering adding a GSM card to use it on AT&T 3G you can buy them after market for a lot cheaper then buy a netbook with one it already.

Got this at Target for a deal during their pre-Thanksgiving sale. Remove Win XP and downloaded Win 7. Seriously, it’s not worth paying so much more for a Win Starter when I could just do it on my own. Like XP but Win 7 is much better! Vista was a flop and takes up too much RAM.

Tested it and ran beautifully. The only downside is — battery life and adding 1 GB of RAM would not be a bad idea.

But then again, I am only using the netbook for traveling, processing docs etc. So, for the price plus a free case, I can’t complain. Of course, it’s my secondary comp. So, users — if you have Win 7, just buy the XP edition which will be considerably cheaper and upgrade it to Win 7. Runs like a champ!!!

I purchased two of these for my sister-in-law’s two little girls. I was surprised by how well they worked. This computer is light weight, it’s small but not too small, and the keyboard seems perfect for little fingers. The mouse pad and button aren’t that great but we got the girls retractable mice* to use instead. :)

The only real downer is that the battery lasts only 2-2.5 hours. If you need a better battery, you might want to consider another Acer for more money:

Make sure you add the right memory to your unit! The Acer will be faster if you give it more ram.

This netbook has a lot of advantages-

Windows XP: a proven operating system- I tolerate Vista, and will not even consider Windows 7 for at least another year; gotta let all the eager beavers beta test it first.

Light weight, easily packed for travel. We purchased the netbook for our son to take with him during deployment. (Built in webcam- just add Skype.)

INTEL Atom processor- this processor is streamlined and fast moving for it’s size.

Cost- for the money, one cannot purchase much more. I have read concerns about the battery life between charges- how many users are actually that far from a power source? If so, what about purchasing a second OEM battery for less money than the 6 cell?

Disadvantages- this computer should be selling for aroung $200 out the door. If it was, Acer would corner the netbook market.

I’ve read about this computer on several websites. Amazon.com had the best price. I bought this thing on June 17. By mid-July the screen started to flicker and then died. I troubleshooted this problem by plugging it into my TV proving that it was the LCD screen that had died in less than 1 month. I used my warranty and I had to pay to send it to their service center in Texas. When I got the computer back the screen flickered the same day I got it, so I sent it back to them. The second time I got the computer back the left side hinge for the LCD screen was broken and obviously gouged with a screw driver and it was missing one of the rubber legs on the bottom, so I sent it in again……. I got it back today. Having owned this computer for just over 4 months, only being able to use if for roughly 2 months, they repaired the hinge and replaced the rubber leg with a SMALLER ONE. Now it does not even sit balanced. Very disappointed in Acer. This is my FORTH Acer computer since 1998 and am very disappointed not only in this computer but their repair service. I hope all my writing here helps someone.

Had all kinds of problems trying to make wireless sync work. Worked one minute, not the next. Finally gave up, returned it, got the AOD150 with 6 hour battery instead. That one is great. Most Acer techs don’t know what they’re doing though so it’s very frustrating if you have a problem, especially if it’s something like wireles sync which is a feature of the product but techs say they aren’t trained for it, know nothing about it and can’t help with it. I think I’ve talked to about 10 and only 2 knew what they were doing.

Locks up starting Windows… Tech Support recommended ‘factory re-starts’ twice. This is the 3rd time that it locks up since July 2009… since ‘factory re-starts’ erases everything I had loaded in my Netbook, they are not a real solution. Netbook on the way to Acer Repair Center… no time provided as to how long to investigate/repair problem.

This is a great computer if you already have a desktop at home and just need something for on the go. It is very small and lightweight, which is great if you are like me and have to carry around an already heavy backpack all the time. The keyboard is pretty similar in feel to a normal keyboard compared to other netbooks that I have used. The only real downsides are the performance capabilities and the lack of CD/DVD drive, but there are plenty of ways around both of those if you have another computer. I recommend this computer to anyone who wants a small companion computer

    Great netbook!!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
    Bought this as a late birthday present for $298 at Walmart and was thuroughly impressed;

    Pros;

Speed, out of the box (after first set up) is quite fast, boot up time was less then 30 seconds. After removing all the unnecasary junk (original virus program was a memory hog) and did some tweaks in the msconfig program I can boot it up in about 23 seconds x)

Portability, I have had this machine for about a month now and have been able to take it ANYWHERE its very light weight and very compact.

Extras, YAY FOR DOO DADS!! this netbook came with a very nice little 1.3mp camera as a default item and it works like a charm.

Keyboard, Whats the point of having a portabable computer if you can’t type on it? do a spreadsheet or two? send an e-mail? Luckily this keyboard is VERY well done including a FULL shift key. Excellent fro browsing (as a matter of fact I’m using it to write this review)

Mouse, If you’ve done your research, you’ll see that alot of the other netbooks hav the annoying touchpad with the left and right buttons on the left and right side of the touchpad. This netbook has one bar under the touchpad that clicks left or right x) VERY well designed.

    cons;

Battery life, the battery life on this is moderatly poor about 2-2.5 hours on a charge, I ended up buying a 6 cell for 59 bucks and it lasts about 6-7 hours x)

GLOSSY SCREEN!! what more can I say? the screen is a fingerprint MAGNET!!

If you don’t mind the fingerprints on the laptop or the battery life (or are planning on buying a 6cell) then this laptop is PERFECT for you!

this is a terrific product. your shipping policies “free ship” are a sham, and will hurt you. no mail order customer wants to wait 16 days from purchase for delivery, as you eventually promised on this item. free ship needs to mean something…in your instance it means…ship when we feel like it…you’ll get it when you get it. that’s mail order of 30 years ago. i know because i operated a consumer mail order company for 25 years. you also failed to deliver on your promise to follow this shipment and notify me of it’s status. i never received any further contact from

Very happy with this unit. It does everything I need to do for my work. I have used it as a replacement for my 4+years notebook . Actually it is faster and has more RAM. The size is definitely a plus over the other computer and makes it easy to carry around. Only negative feeling I have is that had I known that Acer had a model with an 11.6 inch screen and higher resolution I would have ordered that instead. I use mine probably 2 to 3 hours per day. Just curious, has anybody else used it as a replacement for a standard notebook PC? Overall it is a very nice machine.

    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this netbook for my son so he can look up his homeworks (math, science, social studies) online. I had a 17 inch HP w/ Vista before and it broke about 2 months ago. Same specs except size and processor speed. We love the portability of this netbook. It was quite a task carrying my 17 incher around airports. Windows XP sp3 is faster than Vista and is just right for e-mailing, word processing etc.. So it has been running smoothly w/o any need to reboot. I picked Acer over ASUS because of the price, otherwise, would have bought ASUS. Only con is the battery life. We’ll have to purchase the 6- hour battery.

    Traveler’s Delight
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This netbook is just the right weight and size for travel or for those of us with limited space. While of course you make some trade-offs for this convenience, the minor features sacrificed don’t really affect the utility of this product. Plus being able to select a color is an additional attraction.
